Our Instructors


Our instructional staff consists of exceptionally trained Black Belts that make it a priority to effectively communicate their knowledge and understanding to each student, regardless of age, in a professional yet caring manner. We pride ourselves in supporting each student to attain self-defense skills and reach individual fitness goals through Martial Arts training in a safe and fun environment, which in turn, will increase self-confidence.

Master Patrick Childs
Head Instructor, 5th Degree Black Belt

Master Childs began his Karate training in 1994 with USA Karate in Bloomington, MN at the age of 8. He earned his First Degree Black Belt on September 26th, 1998 at the age of 12. He began teaching at USA Karate-Anoka as an Assistant Instruc- tor when he was 16 years old. In 2004, he earned his Second Degree Black Belt at the age of 17. Master Childs continued in- structing while also attending college, and earned his Third Degree Black Belt in 2007 at the age of 21. Around this time, he met John Olson a fellow Martial Artist with whom he became friends. Master John Olson eventually became Master Childs’s key instructor and promoted him to Fourth Degree Black Belt on October 1st, 2011 under the new organization, Ultimate Martial Arts (UMA) at the age of 25. Master Childs was soon offered a full-time Head Instructor position at Ultimate Martial Arts in Woodbury.

In 2012 he accepted the opportunity to lead the new UMA-Lakeville location as Head Instructor. Master Childs ontinues to expand his Martial Arts knowledge and concurrently trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He fulfilled the requirements to earn his Fifth Degree Black Belt and was officially promoted to Karate Master on October 1, 2016.

Mrs. Amanda Childs
Office Director/SuperKids Instructor/4th Degree Black Belt

Mrs. Childs started training in Karate at the New Brighton Community Center in 2003 at the age of 16. In the fall of 2004 she continued her training at USA Karate-Woodbury, which is now an Ultimate Martial Arts school. As an Advanced Brown Belt, Mrs. Childs began teaching the SuperKids Karate classes at USA Karate-Stillwater, which also is now an Ultimate Martial Arts school. while attending college. She earned her First Degree Black Belt which was presented on August 12, 2006 at the age of 19. Shortly after, Mrs. Childs accepted the position of Office Director for USA Karate-Stillwater, before transferring to the Inver Grove Heights location. Mrs. Childs earned her Second Degree Black Belt in 2007 at the age of 20. In 2009, she be- came a Head Instructor at USA Karate-Woodbury. She taught for about 8 months before leaving to pursue another career opportunity outside of Karate. She continued to train all the while, and earned her Third Degree Black Belt in 2010 at the age of 23. At the end of 2011, Mrs. Childs met Patrick Childs, who would not only become her husband, but also her instructor. Under the instruction of Mr. Childs at UMA-Woodbury, Mrs. Childs was promoted to Fourth Degree Black Belt on May 17th, 2014, at the age of 27.

Mrs. Childs has been working with her husband at Ultimate Martial Arts-Lakeville as the Office Director and SuperKids Instructor since January 2015. Mrs. Childs still continues to train multiple nights a week, preparing to achieve the rank of Fifth Degree Black Belt and Karate Master.
